“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever” (Isa. 40:8)
Of all the written works of men, how many can we say will stand forever? In any given generation, new volumes on particular subjects will arise many times. The standard book of psychology used in the 1950s most definitely is not the standard for today. The standard books on electrical engineering and computer science today will most definitely be outdated 20 years from now. Even in the movie industry it's only a matter of time before a movie is remade to be better than the original. But this doesn't happen with the Bible. The one book that covers such a wide variety of topics, written by men who were hardly experts on such matters has not been updated in 2000 years. How do we account for that?
Certainly the subject matter contained within its pages is important and most pertinent to everyone today. The Bible goes far beyond the subject matter of any standard college textbook, and answers the real questions of life. Where did we come from? Why is there evil in the world? What is our purpose? What is our destiny? One might think the answers to these questions would become more clear as time goes on and new discoveries are made, yet the answers contained in God's Word are as clear and relevant as they ever will be. The discoveries serve only to validate what is already there. The updates are not needed and nonexistent.
It's truly amazing that time and time again, critics of the Bible continually attempt to find factual errors, inconsistencies, and contradictions that simply just are not there. Many hurl abuses at it, but none have been able to come up with better answers to those real questions of life than those already given. None have been able to conjure up a comparable "upgrade" to the Scriptures, and none ever will. Why not? Because "the word of our God stands forever."

Last eve I passed beside a blacksmith's door,
And heard the anvil ring the vesper chime;
Then looking, I saw upon the floor,
Old hammers, worn with beating years of time.
"How many anvils have you had," said I,
"To wear and batter all these hammers so?"
"Just one," said he, and then with a twinkling eye;
"The anvil wears the hammers out, ye know."
And so, thought I, the anvil of God's Word,
For ages skeptic blows have beat upon;
Yet though the noise of falling blows was heard
The anvil is unharmed...the hammers gone.
