by Russell Carnley
August 5, 2007

Introduction

  1. All of us will experience some kind of trouble in this life, (Jn. 16:33).
  2. Times of affliction can teach us things we might otherwise be unable to learn.
  3. Psalm 56 was penned by David while he was a captive of the Philistines, (1 Sam. 21:10-15).
  4. Psalm 34 is similar and was written after he was released.
  5. Psalm 56 teaches us how to trust in God when the chips are down.
  6. From this Psalm we will consider three attributes of God which merit our trust.
  1. God is merciful (vs. 1-4)

    1. David's foes (vs 1,2)
    2. David's fears (vs 3)
    3. David's faith (vs 4)
  2. God is mindful (vs. 5-11)

    1. Of David's trials (vs. 5-7)
    2. Of David's tears (vs. 8,9)
    3. Of David's trust (vs. 10,11)
  3. God is mighty (vs. 12, 13)

    1. Therefore we must keep our promises to Him
    2. We should render our praises to Him (Heb. 13:15)
    3. We should walk before Him
